Do tank

Collection, sorting and local communities

Case study

  • 3-day creative sprint.

  • 4 participating local authorities  and beta-testers: Clermont-Auvergne Métropole, Amiens Métropole, Aix Marseille Provence, and Cyclad (Charente Maritime Nord).

  • 40 participants: developers, manufacturers, marketers, start-ups, and operators.

  • 9 experts in CSR, circular economy, behavioural science, nudge, design, etc.

The Do Tank aimed to find innovative, prototypable and testable solutions to harmonise and improve waste collection and sorting in urban areas across 4 different local areas.

Results to date

4 prototypes have been created and tested and will be experimented in 4 different areas in 2020.

Inventing solutions to harmonize waste collection and sorting in 4 local areas

Success story
a 3-day Do Tank

3 days to imagine, conceptualize and prototype collection and sorting solutions for urban areas

What happened at the Do Tank?

Thanks to previously-collected data, participants took part in an initial workshop to lay out the different issues to be dealt with for each relevant type of space.

Using archetypes, the ideation workshop then helped identify innovative proposals.

Helped by designers from the STRATE design school, the participants spent the second day conceptualising their solutions. The resulting hypotheses were submitted to 4 experts in design, nudge, recycling and circularity. Based on the advice of these experts, each team was then able to choose the best solution to prototype.

On the last day, participants built their prototypes with the support of makers from ICI Marseille.

What happens next?

At the beginning of 2020 a test on a panel of users was carried out. The prototypes will now be experimented in the local 4 areas.
